Apple’s current iPhone 5 is still the most popular smartphone in the UK according to sales charts.
The word comes via uSwitch’s Mobile Tracker chart, which aggregates monthly sales, pre-orders and live searches and reports that for August Apple’s iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 are all sitting pretty in the top three places.
This is despite ever escalating rumours of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C budget model and even the alleged iPhone 6 which has already been the subject of internet gossip for some considerable time. Then there’s the competition, despite strong global sales of the Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship it seems Apple is still in the UK top spot in terms of popularity. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is sitting in fourth place while the older Samsung Galaxy S3 remains in fifth.
Similarly, the HTC One, occupying the number six spot, hasn’t impacted iPhone enthusiasm, while pre-launch details of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z1 have also not dampened demand for Apple products. Both these new devices are expected to launch at IFA 2013 on September 4 in Berlin, Germany.
The fact that Apple’s iPhone 4 is still doing so well suggests Apple’s rumoured development of the iPhone 5C, a plastic-bodied budget model, could well pay dividends for the company. Apple is rumoured to be preparing a joint launch for its iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on September 10 while recent murmurings suggest the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 may also be joining the line-up earlier than previously expected and not at their own launch event.
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Mini is currently in seventh place on the chart while Sony’s Xperia Z is in ninth position just ahead of the only Windows Phone device present – Nokia’s budget Lumia 520 in at number 10.
